Black Walnut (Junglans nigra)  Mature height of 130 ft. Well drained soils including bottom lands and flood plains. Shade intolerant, must have full sun.

 

 

Hazelnut (Corylus ameriacana)  Erect bushy shrub with a mature height of 13 ft. Well drained soils. Shade intolerant, must have full sun.

 

 

Hickory, shagbark (Carya ovata)  Erect tree with a mature height of 65 feet.  Wonderful shaggy barked tree that produces flavorful edible nuts when mature.  Well drained soils in full sun. 

 

 

Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)  Erect tree with a mature height of 20 feet.  Well drained soils in full sun.  This tree is shade intolerant.

 

 

Eastern Redbud   (Cercis canadensis)  Slow to moderate grower up to 12 inches per year.  Mature height of 30 feet.  Grows in sand and loam soils.  Dry moist to moist.  Full sun to partial shade.

 

 

White Flowering Dogwood (Comus florida) Mature height of 33 feet. Very shade tolerant, slow growing, long lived. Grows best in dry soils.

 

 

Red Maple (Acer rubrum) Fast growth to a mature height of 60 feet. Shade tolerant to full sun.  Wet to well drained muck and loams.  Brilliant red fall foliage.

 

 

Red Oak (Quercus rubra)  Fast growing tree with a mature height of 100 feet. Moist to well drained soils.  Grows well in sand.  Somewhat shade tolerant.  Long lived.
