Red Pine (Pinus resinosa) Rapid growth rate, 10 to
15 inches per year. Grows to mature height of 75
feet.  Sandy soils, dry to moist soil drainage, full
sunlight to partial shade.
White Pine (Pinus strobes) Rapid growth rate, 10 to
15 inches per year. Grows to mature height of 80
plus feet.  Sandy, loam and clay soils, tolerates soil
from dry to moist - wet soils. Grows full sunlight to
partial shade.
Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) Slow growth rate, 0 to
8 inches per year. Grows to mature height of 100
plus feet.  Loam and clay soils, tolerates soils from
dry to moist - wet soils. Grows full sunlight to partial
shade.
White Spruce (Picea glauca) Slow to moderate
growth rate, 8 to 12 inches per year. Grows to mature
height of 60 feet.  Loam and clay soils, tolerates soils
from dry moist - to moist wet soils. Grows full sunlight
to partial shade.
Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesil) Slow to
moderate growth rate, 0 to 12 inches per year. Grows
to mature height of 100 feet.  Loam and clay soils,
tolerates soils from dry moist - to moist soils. Grows
full sunlight to partial shade.
Black Spruce (Picea mariana) Slow to moderate
growth rate, 6 to 12 inches per year. Grows to mature
from dry moist - to moist soils. Grows best in full
sunlight to partial shade.

Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea) Slow growth rate,
short-lived.  Grows to mature height of 60 feet, width

loamy soil, wet to moist. Balsam Fir tolerates cold
pockets, but is sensitive to salt and soil compaction.
Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana  Lamb) Height at
maturity usually 55'-65' but can attain 100' Usually
grows in dry, acidic sandy soils with a lower pH limit of
4.0, but also loamy soil, thin soil over bedrock, peat,
and soil over permafrost. Does not usually grow in
moderately alkaline soil, but can grow in calcareous
soils up to pH 8.2 if normal mycorrhizal fungi are
present. Full sunlight.
